In Home Family Photos are Amazing!
Let’s face it: life with kids is delightfully messy, full of surprises, and often unpredictable. It’s in those everyday moments—spontaneous laughter, snack-time cuddles, and the epic block tower that took all afternoon to build—that the magic of family truly shines.
That’s why I absolutely love in-home photography sessions. Sure, outdoor locations can be stunning, but there’s something uniquely special about capturing your family right where life happens: at home. Let me share my thoughts on why in-home photography might just be your family’s new favorite way to preserve memories.
Every Detail Tells a Story
The couch where you read bedtime stories, the kitchen counter that's seen countless pancake mornings, the gallery wall of kid-made masterpieces—your home is already brimming with the stories that make your family unique.
When I photograph in your home, those little details become part of the story we tell. Your photos don’t just capture a moment; they capture this moment, surrounded by the things and places you hold dear.
Your house changes through the years and I can personally share that I love looking back at how the house used to be arranged. There are comments from the girls like, “Oh! I remember when we had that!” In home photos preserve the little details that might not feel special now, but they will later.
The Little Moments Matter Most
In-home sessions have a slower, more organic vibe. We’ll capture your toddler’s giggles during a tickle fight, the quiet bond between siblings sharing a book, and even those adorably chaotic snack-time antics.
Even better? We can document the things your family loves doing together most. Whether it’s building puzzles, baking cookies, engaging in a high-energy pillow fight, or playing board games, these are the moments that make your family yours. By photographing your family in action, we’ll create memories that celebrate your unique rhythm and joy.
I have photography fire pit s’more making time, squirt gun fights, sprinkler running and so much more. Those moment can be captured on your phone, sure, but the person who takes that photo isn’t in the photos. Let me document the fun you have with your kids, doing the things you love to do with them.
Rain or Shine, We’re Good to Go
Rainstorm? Blazing heat? Surprise snowstorm? No problem! Your home is the perfect backdrop, no matter the weather. Natural light is ideal though, so plan to spend time in the rooms that have the most natural light. I do have lighting I can bring if things are super dark, but I have done lots of in home photos on dark Pacific North West rainy day and had beautiful results without artificial lighting.
Authenticity Is Beautiful
Let’s toss out the idea that family photos have to be perfectly posed and matchy-matchy. (I mean, who really keeps their living room spotless with kids around anyway?) In-home photography celebrates your family just as you are. Do you really always go around wearing perfectly color coordinated outfits with your family? I don’t! I am just happy of they are dressed. Oh! How precious would it be to capture your little ones running around in just undies? Squee!! Those are some sweet memories and things that we can capture at home. Well, we could probably capture them in a park to…. But yeah. You know what I mean.
Whether your home is filled with toys, your dog’s fur tumbleweeds or last night’s art project like mine is you will cherish in home photos because those are the little things that make your family uniquely you.
You Can Feature the Furry Family Members
Dogs are the most comfortable at home with your family. Bringing them to a park is great, but they have to be leashed and can’t run and just be themselves. I can engage so much freer with pups when they are at your house. We can get them to do tricks, snuggle with kids, etc.
And let’s not forget cats! I have never had a family bring a cat to their family photos in a park. But we can get those sweet kitties captured during family photos in your home! Okay, I know some cats prefer to hide, but if they do come out I will do all I can to get their photos.
I have two dogs and a cat myself and very strongly believe that furry family members are so special and need to be included in family photos when possible.
