In Home Newborn Photos are the Best!

Capturing the Magic: In-Home Newborn Photography

Welcoming your little one into the world is a magical moment, and capturing those first precious days with in-home newborn photography is a beautiful way to preserve those memories forever. At-home sessions provide a comfortable and intimate setting, allowing the true joy of your family's love to shine through.  This means we will capture authentic memories for you to cherish for generations to come!

Oh, let me introduce myself though!  My name is Stacey Feasel and I am a newborn and family photographer based in the greater Seattle area.  I photograph newborn sessions for families in all the surrounding cities:  Redmond, Bothell, Kirkland, Everett, Lynnwood, Woodinville and of course, Snohomish where I actually live.  When I started my photography business, I did not have a studio, so I taught myself how to capture studio style photos in people’s homes.  After my business grew and I could afford a studio, I found that most of the families I served preferred me to come to their homes anyways, so I let the studio go.

So, let’s take a look at some of the advantages of a photographer coming to you for your newborn’s photo session!

Why Choose In-Home Newborn Photography?

In-home newborn photography offers a unique and personal touch that studio sessions often can't match. Your home is where your family's story unfolds, and photographing your newborn in this familiar environment adds an extra layer of warmth and authenticity to your images. It's about capturing the real, everyday moments—the snuggles on the couch, the quiet moments in the nursery, and the loving gazes that fill your home with joy.  Those are the types of newborn family photos I love!

Studio-style photos in your home!

By bringing all my posing setups to you, I can capture the cute, curled up baby poses so you can admire how beautiful your baby for years to come AND capture these authentic family moments.  Truly, this is a unique offering!

Does your baby have an older sibling?  Yeah… think about how wonderful it would be to not have to get you, your partner, toddler/kiddo AND a newborn out the door to arrive at a studio on time.  I am rarely on time anytime I have my kids with me!

I always start with family photos when there is a sibling.  We take about 45 minutes to capture family photos, then the sibling is free to go and do whatever pleases them.  Fair warning… sibling photos are the hardest ones to capture.  You will be happy and relieved to be able to capture those in the comfort of your home with all your kiddo’s favorite bribes at the ready!

Sibling photos are the hardest to capture, so we will do them first!

Are the grandparents coming to town to help out with the baby?  Let’s include them too!  Again, much easier to do when we do photos in the comfort of your home.

Does my house need to be clean?

No – do NOT clean your whole house!  For great family newborn photos, all we need is a spot with good natural lighting.  Find that area and shove all that is by that window or sliding door into another room.  Check for cords or bright colored objects that might be distracting.  I love doing photos on a bed if possible.  Guest bed, master bed, whatever is in good lighting.  There are more unique poses I feel we can capture when working with a bed rather than a couch, but make sure you are respecting any post-partum uncomfortability!

For the posed newborn portion, I really just need a spot that is ideally 5 feet by 5 feet and quiet.  We want baby to sleep soundly and not to be woken up by people washing dishes, getting ice or playing video games.  I don’t need natural light for this portion of the photo session.  I have lights I bring so that I can control the lighting easier.  Typically, a spare bedroom or the nursery works best for this part of the session.  We will not see any part of the room in the newborn only photos.

The last reason I love doing newborn photos in your home is this… we can easily include your pets!  Cats, dogs – I love them all!  If they are friendly and it is safe to have baby around your four-legged friend, then let’s get photos of them with you all.  Afterall, they are part of the family too, right?
